Evaluating the Techno-economic Potential of an Integrated Material Recovery and Waste-to-Hydrogen System

Abstract This study proposes a novel integrated material recovery and waste-to-hydrogen concept in view of enhancing resource efficiency minimising environmental impact. A comprehensive techno-economic evaluation is conducted on an system consisting facility (MRF) gasification rejected materials for hydrogen production (Gasification-H2). Valorising these through Gasification-H2 can potentially offer saving 1.6 million £/y disposal cost while diverting significant amount waste from landfills. Owing to the high market value hydrogen, with generates 4 times more revenues than conventional MRF, though at expense higher capital operating costs. The minimum selling price lies range 2.2 £/kg (100 dry t/h rejects) 6.1 (2 rejects). concludes that larger desirable, i.e. greater 100 rejects, compete generated fossil-based systems. It also recommended economically competitive should comprise multiple MRF large-scale system.
